Feeding & Nutrition

Proper nutrition is the foundation of your Golden's health. High-quality dog food formulated for large breeds provides the balanced nutrients they need at every life stage.

Puppy (0-12 months)

Feed 3-4 times daily with puppy-specific food. Look for formulas with DHA for brain development and controlled calcium for proper bone growth. Avoid overfeeding to prevent rapid growth that can stress joints.

Daily Amount: 3-4 cups (divided)

Adult (1-7 years)

Feed 2 times daily with adult large-breed formula. Focus on lean protein sources (chicken, fish, lamb) and avoid fillers. Monitor weight closely as Goldens are prone to obesity.

Daily Amount: 3-4 cups (divided)

Senior (7+ years)

Switch to senior formula with joint support (glucosamine, chondroitin). Reduce calories if activity decreases. Consider adding supplements for cognitive health and mobility.

Daily Amount: 2-3 cups (divided)

Nutrition Tips

  • Avoid table scraps: Human food can cause digestive upset and obesity.
  • Fresh water always: Change water daily and clean bowls regularly.
  • Treats in moderation: Limit to 10% of daily calories to prevent weight gain.
  • Toxic foods: Never feed chocolate, grapes, onions, garlic, xylitol, or macadamia nuts.
